A Carry-On Packing System That Leaves Room

Efficient packing is less about owning the perfect bag and more about making each item earn its place. Begin with the activities on the itinerary, then choose a small group of clothes that can move between them.

Pack in combinations

Build around a simple color range and repeatable layers. Wear the bulkiest useful pieces in transit when practical. Check the forecast close to departure, but include one layer that can handle a change in temperature.

Keep essentials together

Use one small pouch for medication, chargers and items you need during the journey. Keep important documents where you can reach them without opening the full bag. Follow the current security and carrier rules for your route.

Leave a little space

An overfilled bag is harder to organize and less adaptable on the way home. A small amount of unused room gives you flexibility for a wet layer, a local purchase or a change of plans.
