Choose Scenic Stops Without Unsafe Pullovers

A beautiful view is not permission to stop. Narrow shoulders, wildlife, traffic and private land make improvised pullovers risky for travelers and residents.

Why this matters

Use designated viewpoints and current road information, plan stops before driving and continue to the next safe area when parking is full.

Make the plan usable

Plan the route around safe driving time, legal stops and vehicle-specific needs. Record the details that would be difficult to recover during a delay, and leave enough margin to change the plan when the evidence changes.

Questions worth answering

  • Where are safe stops?
  • What changes after dark?
  • Which service is essential?
  • What is the fatigue limit?

Verify before travel

Schedules, access, prices, policies and conditions can change. Check current official information and confirm any detail that would determine whether the trip works.
