What to Look for When Choosing a Hotel

The right hotel supports the way you want to experience a destination. Start with location, but define it in practical terms: the places you plan to visit, the time you are comfortable spending in transit and the atmosphere you want when you step outside.

Read beyond the headline amenities

Look for details that affect daily comfort, such as room layout, sound, climate control, accessibility, check-in times and luggage storage. If something is essential, confirm it directly with the property before booking.

Understand the complete price

Check taxes, destination or resort charges, parking, breakfast and cancellation terms. A lower nightly rate may not be the lower total cost. Save the confirmation and review the terms again before the cancellation deadline.

Use reviews for patterns

Recent reviews are most useful when several travelers describe the same strength or problem. Give more weight to comments that match your needs than to a single dramatic experience.
